What Invisalign is and how it works

What Is Invisalign — And Is It Right for You?

Invisalign is an orthodontic system that uses a series of custom-fabricated clear plastic aligners to move teeth incrementally into correct position. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before switching to the next in the series. The aligners are removable — you take them out to eat, drink (anything besides water), brush, and floss.

Invisalign treats most cases of crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite that traditional braces would address. Severely complex cases — significant jaw discrepancies, for example — may still require conventional orthodontics, which we’ll discuss at your consultation.

Why adults choose Invisalign over braces

Nearly invisible during wear. Removable for meals and photos. No dietary restrictions. Easier to brush and floss. Fewer office visits than traditional braces. No metal irritating your cheeks. Adult treatment times are similar to braces for most cases.

Your Invisalign journey at our Lindenhurst office

The 5-Step Invisalign Process

1

Free Consultation

We evaluate your bite, teeth alignment, and goals. We’ll tell you if you’re a good Invisalign candidate and give you a realistic timeline and cost estimate. No obligation.

2

Digital Scan & ClinCheck

We take a 3D digital scan — no messy impressions. Invisalign uses it to create your ClinCheck: a virtual preview of your tooth movement from start to finish.

3

Custom Aligners Fabricated

Your full set of aligners is fabricated and shipped to our office, typically in 2–4 weeks. Each aligner moves your teeth a fraction of a millimeter toward the final position.

4

Wear & Progress Checks

Wear each aligner 20–22 hours per day for about 2 weeks, then switch. We see you every 6–8 weeks to monitor progress and give you your next set of trays.

5

Retainer Phase

Once treatment is complete, you wear retainers to hold your teeth in place. Vivera retainers (Invisalign’s brand) are custom-fitted and highly durable.

Invisalign Teen in Lindenhurst

Invisalign Teen includes compliance indicators (blue dots that fade with wear) and replacement aligners for lost trays. Many teens prefer Invisalign over braces for school photos, sports, and social confidence.

Whiten while you straighten

Many patients whiten their teeth after completing Invisalign, while their teeth are at peak alignment and before retainers are fitted. We’ll discuss timing at your consultation.

Invisalign cost & insurance in Lindenhurst

How Much Does Invisalign Cost in Lindenhurst, NY?

Invisalign cost depends on case complexity and the number of aligners required. Most orthodontic insurance plans that cover braces also cover Invisalign at the same benefit level.

Treatment TypeTypical Cost
Invisalign Lite (minor corrections)$1,500–$3,000
Invisalign Moderate$3,000–$5,000
Invisalign Full (comprehensive)$4,500–$7,000
Invisalign Teen$3,000–$6,000
Vivera Retainers (post-treatment)$400–$800

💳 Payment options

We offer in-house payment plans with no interest for qualified patients, and we accept CareCredit and Sunbit financing. Most patients can start Invisalign for $0 down with approved financing.

Using your orthodontic insurance

Most PPO plans with orthodontic coverage apply a lifetime orthodontic maximum ($1,000–$2,500 typically) to Invisalign the same as braces. We verify your benefits before your consultation. Call us with your insurance member ID and we’ll confirm what’s covered.

Common questions about Invisalign

Invisalign FAQ — Lindenhurst, NY

How long does Invisalign take?

The average adult Invisalign treatment takes 12–18 months. Minor corrections (Invisalign Lite) can be completed in as little as 6 months. More complex bite corrections may take 18–24 months. Your ClinCheck — the digital treatment preview we create at your second appointment — will show your specific timeline before you commit.

Is Invisalign painful?

Invisalign is generally less uncomfortable than traditional braces. You may feel pressure and mild soreness for 2–3 days when you switch to a new aligner — this is normal and indicates the aligner is working. The smooth plastic edges don’t cause the irritation that metal brackets often cause on cheeks and lips.

How many hours a day do I have to wear Invisalign?

20–22 hours per day for effective treatment. You remove the aligners only to eat, drink (anything other than plain water), brush, and floss. Wearing aligners less than 20 hours per day will extend your treatment time or require additional aligners. Compliance is the single biggest factor in whether Invisalign finishes on schedule.

Can Invisalign fix my bite as well as straighten my teeth?

Invisalign can correct most bite issues — overbite, underbite, crossbite, open bite, and overjet — in addition to straightening teeth. Severe skeletal discrepancies (where the jaws themselves need repositioning) may require surgical orthodontics or traditional braces, which we’d discuss at your consultation. Most adults with bite concerns are good Invisalign candidates.

Do I need retainers after Invisalign?

Yes — retainers are essential after any orthodontic treatment, Invisalign included. Teeth have a natural tendency to shift back toward their original position (relapse). Most patients wear retainers every night indefinitely. Vivera retainers (Invisalign’s brand) are custom-fitted to your final tooth position and are very durable. The investment in retainers protects the entire Invisalign investment.
